Vancouver Travel Guide: Where the City Meets the Sea

Vancouver Trade Guide is where coastal calm meets mountain adventure, a city wrapped in ocean views, old-growth forests, and a thriving food scene that rivals any major destination. Whether you’re biking through Stanley Park, exploring markets along the waterfront, or skiing in the nearby mountains, Vancouver offers the perfect balance of nature, culture, and style.

My favorite time of year to go is actually in late November over America’s Thanksgiving. At this time Vancouver has their Christmas Market with shops, live music and food in front of the Convention Center. The weather is cool but not cold yet, and you will have amazing sunny days. Take a ferry over to Cypress Mountain to go skiing for a day or Whistler.

Top Things to Do in Vancouver

  • Explore Stanley Park: Vancouver’s crown jewel. Rent bikes and ride the Seawall Trail, a 17-mile path that circles the park with panoramic ocean and mountain views. Make time to stop at The Teahouse in Stanley Park for a peaceful lunch overlooking the water.
  • Capilano Suspension Bridge Park: Take the ferry across the harbor to The Shipyards District in North Vancouver where you will find a lively area filled with shops, cafes, and views of downtown. From there, catch the bus up the hill to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, one of Vancouver’s most iconic experiences. Walk the suspension bridge high above the Capilano River and explore the Cliffwalk and Treetops Adventure trails. Depending on the time of year you will see salmon jumping upstream.
  • Salmon Fishing & Outdoor Adventures: For something uniquely Pacific Northwest, try your hand at salmon fishing, charters leave from Coal Harbour or Horseshoe Bay. Other popular outdoor activities include kayaking at Deep Cove, hiking Grouse Grind, or skiing in Whistler (just two hours away).
  • Christmas Market & Winter Fun: Outside of summer, late November through December is one of the most magical times to visit. The Vancouver Christmas Market lights up Jack Poole Plaza with festive food, music, and handmade gifts. Pair your visit with a ski day on Grouse Mountain or Cypress Mountain, both just minutes from downtown. If that is not your vibe, you can book dinner at the top of Cypress Mountain at their North Pole.
  • Shop & Stroll in Gastown and Granville Island: Walk through Gastown’s cobblestone streets, home to boutiques, galleries, and the famous steam clock. Then, head to Granville Island Public Market for local food stalls and art studios.
