Fredericksburg is one of those places that feels like a well-loved secret, rolling hills, wineries around every bend, cozy cafés on Main Street, and a Texas-meets-European pace that’s just perfect for wandering. Whether you’re here for the wine trail, a quiet escape, or good food & local vibes, this little town in the Hill Country has layers. It can be a great location to go with kids as well. I have gone within and without kids, and there is so much to do!

If you are wondering on when you should visit, know that there is no bad time. I have gone in dead of summer July, Spring time April/May and multiple times over NYE. The vibes are always high, food is great and wine is endless. If you go during the summer time, remember you are still in Texas and the heat will hit you when you are walking around main street and sipping on wine outdoors.

Wineries & Wine Bars

• Slate Theory — Artistic, modern, and a tasting in their underground cellar is a must.
• Barons Creek Winery — Rustic and welcoming, a good stop on your wine trail.
• Health Sparkling Wines — For something bubbles-y and fun.
• Signor Vineyards — Elegant wines and scenic views.
• Becker Vineyards — Classic Hill Country charm and great wine flights.
• Grape Creek Vineyards — Beautiful grounds and solid wines (great for photos).
• Elk Story Winery & Distillery — A bit different — they also distill, so you might find some spirits in addition to wine.
• Velvet Lounge: The most fun karaoke bar! Bring cash as there typically is a $5 cover.

Coffee & Brunch

• RockHaus Coffee — Charming spot on Main Street, great for lattes and pastries. Visit Fredericksburg TX
• Sage Restaurant & Lounge — Excellent for brunch when you want something a bit more than your typical café fare.
• Hidden Hideaway on Main — A tucked-away gem for breakfast or coffee.

Dinner & Casual Eats

• Pasta Bella — Classic Italian vibes to satisfy comforting cravings.
• Texas Sunrise — Your go-to “hungover spot” with breakfasts that hit just right. The plates are massive.
• Hill & Vine – Amazing food and staff. They have a great cocktail selection and seating indoor and outdoor. Live music on the weekends.
• Chase’s Place – a small house that does not take reservations, so ensure on busy weekends that you get there to put your name on the list. They have specials of the evening and it is first come first serve. Amazing staff and unique cocktails.
• Fredricksburg Brewing Company – Classic brewery that makes you feel like you are in Germany.
• Otto’s (deposit needed for res)- German dinner that is a classic.
• Martini’s Seafood – Best seafood you will find here. Get the seafood towers and a dirty martini! Expect a wait.

Things to Do & See

• Walk around Main Street for tons of shops, art, and more wine.
• Drive the Texas Hill Country Wine Trail, using my winery list above as stops.
• Outdoor options: hiking nearby (Enchanted Rock is a short drive away), scenic drives, nature in bloom in spring.
• Spa & relaxation at local inns or vineyards with wellness offerings.
• Check for local wine festivals, grape harvest events, and art walks. Fredericksburg often has seasonal events tied to wine, wildflowers, and small-town heritage.

Where to Stay

• AirBNB/VRBO – This is my typical route as we travel here as a group of 6 typically. There are plenty of options to pick from and one of my favorites is Stone Haus that has a huge yard and hot tub, but also two other tiny homes available so everyone gets their own space.
• Luxury: Hoffman Haus – A boutique inn blending Hill Country charm with spa-like touches, perfect for couples or a luxury girls’ weekend.
• Midscale: Albert Hotel– A brand new hotel, comfortable, and easy access to Main Street.
• Budget: Lincoln Street Inn – I stayed here on my most recent visit in 2025 and it it 4 bedrooms in the main house and comes with a guest house that is spacious and has a full kitchen. The location is perfection just one block from main street.

4-Day Fredericksburg Itinerary

Day 1 – Arrive & Sip Local

• Check into your house or hotel.
• Afternoon: Start light with a coffee at RockHaus Coffee.
• Evening: Head to Slate Theory for a unique underground tasting: book this in advance.
• Dinner at Martini’s for some seafood.
• Optional nightcap at Velvet Lounge for some singing.

Day 2 – Wine Trail Wonders

• Brunch at Sage Restaurant & Lounge — stylish and filling.
• Winery hopping: Hire a driver or get the hop on hop off bus. I have used Black Barrel Tours and had a great experience.

Day 3 – Foodie Day on Main Street

• Breakfast at Texas Sunrise, your hungover (or just hungry) go-to.
• Stroll through Main Street.
• Lunch at Hill and Vine.
• Afternoon tastings at:
  • Grape Creek Vineyards (off main street)
  • Elk Store Winery & Distillery (don’t miss the cocktails if you want something besides wine).
• Dinner at Otto’s.

Day 4 – Slow Morning & Farewell

• Coffee & pastry at RockHaus Coffee.
• Walk Main Street for shopping, art galleries, and gifts.
• Brunch/lunch send-off at Fredricksburg Brewing Company.
• Afternoon: Head out with a last scenic drive through Texas Hill Country and a hike at Enchanted Rock on your way out of town.
